Types of access
The following types of access to AIS are available:
Web access to online AIS data:
Access to the data is provided on the Internet, where it is protected by a user name and access code. On the website you can follow the movements of ships carrying AIS transmitters in real time within the Danish area of coverage.
The most popular functionalities of web access are:
- Filtering data, so that for instance only Danish ships or only ships with a certain draught are shown
- Zooming in and out on the chart to show different levels of detail
- Having electronic marine charts shown as a background
- Making one’s own bookmarks
Online AIS data stream (proxy access) – the advanced system
Access is gained by means of a small program, a ‘Subscriber Proxy’ application, which will be installed on your PC. We provide access only to the data stream of raw AIS data. It is up to you to acquire the necessary presentation program that can display the data.
This solution includes advanced ways of filtering the data, replay, access to coverage of specific areas, etc. It is a means of access primarily designed for authorities and businesses with special needs.
Access of this type takes up more capacity in the Danish Maritime Safety Administration AIS system than access via web servers, so the number of users is limited. Each application is therefore assessed individually, to ascertain whether there is a justifiable need for this form of access. In addition, we specify certain conditions regarding the use of the data. In general, the data must not be passed on to third parties without written permission.
Events and statistics
For a fee, we can, to a limited extent, provide analyses or extracts of AIS data.
For example, these may be extracts of statistical data showing traffic patterns, traffic intensity, numbers of passages past specified points or lines, etc. Further possibilities are extracts showing the passages of particular ships at a specified time.
